School Age
Welcome to School Age!
Are you ready for a fun-filled afternoon? That is our goal in the School Age program at TCH.
Our program gives each child time to complete his/her homework on a daily basis. We also focus on literacy. The children all have their own journal’s that they write in daily. They are free to write thoughts or they can answer questions that we give them. Every afternoon we read a few chapters out of a chosen book/short story for the month. Some of the books we have read are Maniac Magee and Holes. The children are also currently writing a newspaper to go along with reading the book Holes.
We do many art, science, and cooking activities in our program. The children enjoy coming up with activities to share with each other. We have made pancakes, smoothies, nachos, sundaes, pizzelles, cookies, fruit salad, and soup just to name a few. We also enjoy science experiments in our program. We have made jelly crystals, rocks and balls, tornados, snow, and geysers. We have also looked at different rocks and categorized them and have done many different color experiments. The children love being hands-on and seeing what happens. The children enjoy art and have made clay bowls and shapes, free art, holiday projects, beaded necklaces and bracelets, and finger weaving. The children are always coming up with new and exciting ideas.
We enjoy spending time outdoors when the weather cooperates. We play baseball, football, soccer, kick ball, dodge ball, gaga, and tag. We also go sledding and snow boarding in the winter. We enjoy nature walks and like seeing all the animals on the property.
Every year is different at TCH, but we look forward to making every one better and more exciting than the year before!
